Today’s Testimony Before U.S. Congress

Dear Members of the Georgetown University Community,

Today, I have been called to testify before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Education and Workforce.

The hearing focuses on antisemitism. While my written testimony necessarily focuses on Georgetown’s efforts to eliminate it from our campus, we know that our mission also deplores Islamophobia, racism, and all forms of hate. To read the testimony click here.

For many decades the Church has asked the Jesuits to lead the way globally in interfaith dialogue. Hence, our mission states: “Serious and sustained discourse among people of different faiths, cultures, and beliefs promotes intellectual, ethical, and spiritual understanding.” This is what Georgetown constantly aspires to achieve.

My remarks attempt to convey this mission. We all accept that this mission is never completely fulfilled, but, in the spirit of the magis, we consistently reflect on how we can do better.

We are all proud of being part of an institution with such a mission.

Sincerely,

Robert M. Groves
Interim President
