More details on our celebration of the Class of 2020

December 21, 2021

Dear Class of 2020:

Earlier this fall, President DeGioia shared that Georgetown would welcome the Class of 2020 back to campus the weekend of May 28-29, 2022, for a commencement ceremony and other activities to celebrate with your families, friends, and classmates.

Thank you to each of you who shared your feedback and hopes for the weekend through the recent survey. It reaffirmed that, in addition to a traditional commencement ceremony, a celebratory evening event with the Class of 2020 and your families is a key element of the commencement experience. A social event celebrating your class will remain a focus of our team’s planning for the Saturday evening of Commencement weekend.

We are planning for the undergraduate commencement ceremony to take place on Saturday, May 28, at 9:00 a.m. The ceremony will be held on Healy Lawn, and families and friends are invited to attend. Graduates will wear academic regalia, and individual names will be called as graduates cross the stage.

A Baccalaureate Mass is being planned for Sunday, May 29, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a commencement brunch for graduates and their families.

We wanted to communicate the timing of these ceremonies to support your travel planning, particularly as you may be with family over the holidays.

Additional information about the weekend’s schedule, as well as information about on-campus housing and academic regalia, will be shared in the new year. All events will be subject to the university’s health and safety guidelines in place at that time and may be adjusted.

We appreciate your patience and flexibility as planning continues in the evolving public health context, and look forward to celebrating with you in May.
