Messages to the Georgetown Community

Announcing a Significant Bequest for STEM and Medical Scholarships at Georgetown

Dear Members of the Georgetown University Community,

I am writing to share the news of a significant bequest commitment from Richard (D’77) and Angela Calabrese that will expand scholarship support for STEM undergraduates and medical students at Georgetown.

Richard and Angela’s generosity will establish two endowed scholarship funds: one for undergraduate Regents STEM Scholars in Georgetown’s Community Scholars Program, an initiative that supports first-generation and limited-income students throughout their college experience, and one for medical students in our School of Medicine who demonstrate financial need. This extraordinary gift commitment will enable many more talented students to pursue their chosen vocations—whether in innovative research, service to their communities, or care for others in a clinical setting—by reducing their financial burdens.

Since Richard’s graduation from our School of Dentistry in 1977, he and Angela have remained active members of the Georgetown community. This gift commitment reflects their strong belief in the formative potential of education and the long-term impact that investment in talented students can have on research, service, and clinical care.

Please join me in thanking Richard and Angela for their extraordinary support of our students pursuing careers devoted to knowledge, service, and the common good. We look forward to witnessing the impact that their gift will have on our community, STEM fields, and the medical profession.

Sincerely,

Robert M. Groves
Interim President
