Announcing a New $10 Million Gift for Scholarships and Faculty at the Steers Center for Global Real Assets
Dear Members of the Georgetown University Community,
I write to announce an exciting $10 million gift commitment that will support new faculty hiring and establish graduate student scholarships as part of the ongoing work at the Steers Center for Global Real Assets in the McDonough School of Business. This gift from Robert (B’75 P’06 P’08 P’10 P’22) and Lauren (P’06 P’08 P’10 P’22) Steers reflects the deep commitment of the Steers family to the Center established a decade ago and to the vision for the advancement of this important work at Georgetown.
This most recent gift has a dual purpose: increased opportunities and access for graduate students and expansion of the Center’s faculty expertise. It will establish:
- The Steers Distinguished Professor of the Practice in Real Estate and the Steers Distinguished Professor of the Practice in Infrastructure, both endowed positions; and
- The Steers Scholars Program for Master of Science in Global Real Assets (GRA) students, a program supporting 20 full-tuition scholarships each year for students in the GRA program.
These efforts will greatly expand the ability of the Center to attract leading experts and talented students to Georgetown as it pursues its ambition to become the strongest real estate and infrastructure-focused program in the country.
We could not be more fortunate to have the generous support of Bob and Lauren Steers. We are also grateful to Bob for his past service on the Georgetown University Board of Directors, where he served as Chair of the Subcommittee on Investments, and on the Board of Regents, as well as his current service as Chair of the McDonough Board of Advisors and Executive Chairman of the Steers Center Advisory Board.
The Steers’ gift marks a pivotal moment for Georgetown. It allows us to lead in the rapidly evolving field of real assets, to expand programs that integrate academic rigor with industry practice, and to prepare students to tackle defining challenges of our time—digitization, demographics, decarbonization and deglobalization.
Please join me in recognizing Bob and Lauren Steers for their extraordinary generosity and for advancing the vision of a world-class center at the forefront of this critical domain.
Sincerely,
Robert M. Groves
Interim President
