Leadership Transitions in the President’s Office
Dear Faculty and Staff,
I am writing today to announce key leadership transitions in the President’s Office.
I am pleased to announce that Anne Moran will be joining the President’s Office as Chief of Staff to the President. Anne’s first day will be September 8, 2026. Anne served as my Chief of Staff at Seattle University. Anne is an alumna of Seattle University, where, in addition to serving as Chief of Staff, she has held a number of leadership positions in administration over the last 15 years. Please join me in welcoming Anne to the Georgetown community.
I am also pleased to share that Joe Ferrara will remain a part of the university’s leadership team as Senior Vice President for Strategic Engagement and Senior Advisor to the President, a title he has held since last November. As Senior Vice President, Joe oversees a number of key functions, including Public Affairs, Government Relations, Global Engagement, and Athletics. As Senior Advisor, Joe will work closely with Anne and me to ensure a smooth transition. Joe has also been appointed a Distinguished Professor of the Practice at the McCourt School of Public Policy. I wish to express my appreciation to Joe for his years of service in the President’s Office, working alongside both President DeGioia and Interim President Groves. He has been immensely helpful to me during this transition, and I look forward to continuing to work with him.
Finally, let me express my deep gratitude to Bob Groves for his years of service as both Provost and Interim President of Georgetown University. Bob’s leadership as Interim President during a lengthy transitional period was central to ensuring that Georgetown continued to move forward while navigating a very challenging and complex external environment. For the next year, Bob will act as Senior Advisor to the President. I have asked Bob to undertake an initiative with faculty on how best to respond to the impacts of Artificial Intelligence on teaching and learning. Bob plans to step down and retire in August 2027.
I am grateful for the ongoing dedication of our senior academic and administrative leadership and for the deep engagement of our staff and faculty in supporting our educational mission. I look forward to working together as we begin the new academic year in August. You have my best wishes this summer.
Respectfully,
Eduardo M. Peñalver
President
