Georgetown & D.C.: A Partnership for Progress
Throughout his term, President DeGioia strengthened local and regional partnerships, articulated a collaborative institutional vision for the future, enhanced campus infrastructure, and deepened the University’s impact across the city through the launch of the Capitol Campus.
Georgetown Community Partnership
The Georgetown Community Partnership was established in 2012 to facilitate dialogue and consensus-based decision making among members of the University community and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, the surrounding neighborhood citizens associations, and the Advisory Neighborhood Commission. This collaborative forum enables stakeholders to balance the University’s long-term planning with the needs of local communities.
Georgetown Community PartnershipThe Martin Luther King Jr. Initiative
Georgetown’s Martin Luther King Jr. Initiative honors the civil rights leader’s vision and reaffirms our commitment to his urgent work of advancing social and racial justice. In addition to a series of campus and community events, Georgetown presents the John R. Thompson Jr. Legacy of a Dream Award, named after our former head men’s basketball coach (1972–1999) who embodied Dr. King’s fight for justice and equality.
About the MLK InitiativeA Collaborative Vision for Growth
The Georgetown Community Partnership, in close collaboration with local and regional agencies and members of the Georgetown and Washington, D.C., communities, developed a 20-year Campus Plan to advance the University’s academic mission and foster a deeper engagement with Georgetown’s neighbors. This Plan, the scope of which is the most significant in Georgetown’s history, runs from 2017 to 2036.
Georgetown’s 20-Year Campus PlanThis kind of collaboration presents to us an extraordinary opportunity to ensure that our university, our neighborhood, and our city continue to be one of the most vibrant places to live, work, and learn anywhere in the world.

A Growing HilltopGeorgetown University Health Justice Alliance
Launched in 2016, the Health Justice Alliance is an academic medical-legal partnership that brings together students, scholars, and practitioners across disciplines to reimagine healthcare policy and improve health outcomes in vulnerable communities across Washington, D.C., and the nation.
Health Justice AllianceImpact in the Heart of D.C.
Georgetown’s Capitol Campus provides a new center of gravity that complements and supports the University’s work on the Hilltop and strengthens our connections across the city. The Campus is organized around our Law Center, located just a few blocks from the Capitol Building since its founding in 1870, and now spans ten buildings across six city blocks.
Our vision for the Capitol Campus, a place at the intersection of knowledge and inquiry, civic engagement, and building the common good.
