Teilhard de Chardin: His Importance in the 21st Century

Father Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, S.J. (1881-1955) was a French Jesuit, philosopher, paleontologist and geologist. On April 9, 2015, in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of his death, Georgetown University hosted a symposium, Teilhard de Chardin: His Importance in the 21st Century.

The symposium included a presentation of his “Mass on the World”, as well as a panel discussion. The discussion was moderated by Frank Frost, Ph.D., director, The Teilhard de Chardin Project, and featured:

  • John F. Haught, Ph.D., Distinguished Research Professor, Theology Department, Georgetown University – “Evolution’s God”

  • Kathleen Duffy, SSJ, Ph.D., Professor of Physics, Chestnut Hill College – “The Power of Love: Rediscovering Fire”

  • John Grim, Ph.D., Co-director, Forum on Religion and Ecology at Yale, and President of the American Teilhard Association – “Co-creating the Earth”

  • Ilia Delio, OSF, Ph.D., Haub Director of Catholic Studies, Visiting Professor, Georgetown University – “Approaching Omega: The Future of Humanity”
