A Message Regarding Veterans Day

To the Members of our Georgetown Community

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen:

As our nation celebrates the service of our veterans this week, I wish to invite you to an event on our Georgetown campus to honor the women and men who have served as members of the military. “A Day to Honor our Veterans,” sponsored by Georgetown University Student Veterans Association and The Hoya Battalion, will take place in front of White-Gravenor at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, November 11. Following the event, I invite you to a reception we are hosting in Riggs Library.  Please RSVP here.

This year we are so pleased to welcome General Dr. Richard Scales (USA, Ret.) to our campus as our keynote speaker. General Scales served our nation for thirty-four years, where he achieved the rank of Major General. During General Scales’ distinguished career he was awarded with a Silver Star for valor during the Battle of Hamburger Hill as well as a Legion of Merit and Bronze Star. General Scales is also an accomplished author and has written several books.

Every day, our student veterans enrich our community with the leadership and integrity they cultivated in their service. We are deeply grateful that so many have chosen to bring their talents to Georgetown; we truly appreciate the contributions they make to life on our campuses – in the classroom, among our student groups and in the hallways of our dormitories. I hope that you will all join me on Monday in celebrating all those who have served our country and, in particular, the veterans among our Georgetown family.

Sincerely,

John J. DeGioia
