To all faculty, students and staff
Dear Members of the Georgetown University Community:
It is with great pleasure that I invite you to nominate faculty for this year's President’s Awards for Distinguished Scholar-Teachers at Georgetown University. With these awards, we celebrate the integration of outstanding research and the kind of excellence in teaching that is at the heart of our mission. These awards seek to recognize the most impactful among our exceptionally talented faculty.
We encourage all members of the university to submit nominations. Eligible nominees include tenured or clinician scholar track faculty, and renominations are welcome. To submit a nomination, please send a statement of support to email@example.com by Friday, April 4, 2014 at 5 p.m.
While the strongest nominations will include specific examples of the integration of scholarship and excellence in teaching, we recognize that student nominations may naturally focus more on the teaching element while faculty colleagues may focus more on research. You can find more information about the nomination process and awards below.
Awardees will each receive an annual grant of $10,000 for three years to support their scholarship, and will be recognized this fall at our annual Fall Faculty Convocation. Last year, we had the pleasure of recognizing Professors Der Chen Chang and Richard Schlegel, which you can see by visiting here.
The talents and extraordinary dedication of our faculty enrich our community every day. We are blessed to be a part of such a vibrant university, and I very much look forward to reading your nominations reflecting this exceptional academic community. You all have my very best wishes for the rest of the semester.

The President’s Awards for Distinguished Scholar-Teachers at Georgetown University
The President's Awards for Distinguished Scholar-Teachers at Georgetown University recognize and celebrate the integration of outstanding research and excellence in teaching at our University. The Awards not only honor the individual recipients but also emphasize standards of excellence at Georgetown.
Each year, the President names two tenured or Clinician Scholar track faculty to receive the awards and be recognized as Presidential Fellows. Award recipients receive an annual grant of $10,000 for three academic years to support their scholarship. The recipients of the President’s Awards are announced at the following Fall Faculty Convocation.
All members of the community are invited to nominate exceptional faculty members who are dedicated both to ambitious research that is highly regarded and to the sort of student engagement and excellence in teaching that is the hallmark of our student-centered research university.
A committee named by the President composed of senior faculty and previous award winners from across the University will review nominations received from the Georgetown community and recommend a short list of candidates for final selection.
In our selection, we will keep in mind that distinguished scholarship can take on vastly different forms depending on the scholar's field, and that it is animated and documented in many ways. Likewise, we will look for evidence of faculty members' teaching excellence not only in course evaluations, but also in other sources, such as student mentoring, including dissertation, project, laboratory and clinical supervision, and in the accomplishments of their students after leaving Georgetown. We encourage you to highlight such evidence in your nominating statement. We recognize that nominations from students may focus on the teaching element, while faculty colleague nominations may focus more on scholarly achievements. That said, the strongest candidates will show exceptional accomplishments at the intersection of these two elements of our mission. Renominations are welcome.
Along with the nominating statement of support, the EVPs' offices will provide additional materials reflecting the nominated faculty members' accomplishments in teaching and scholarship to the faculty review committee.
Please nominate candidates by submitting a brief statement of support to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Nomination Deadline: April 4, 2014 at 5:00 p.m.
