Messages to the Georgetown Community

New Georgetown Opportunities for Impacted Federal Employees, Seniors and Recent Graduates

Dear Members of the Georgetown University Community:

On January 28 and February 24, I updated our Georgetown community on our activities to review and respond to federal actions that may impact our University. Throughout this period of uncertainty, we have returned repeatedly to our University’s mission to guide us.

Our mission statement ends with this closing sentence:

“Georgetown educates women and men to be reflective lifelong learners, to be responsible and active participants in civic life and to live generously in service to others.”

Over the past few weeks, the lives of thousands of public servants have been disrupted with reductions in staff at federal agencies.

Facing this, deans and program leaders have asked themselves, “How should we live Georgetown’s mission at this moment? How could we support public servants who have lost their jobs? How can we support our students who face new challenges to being people for others?”

Our university response: we expand opportunities for education.

I am proud to announce that today we are launching a program to offer scholarships for tuition reduction and additional career services for graduating seniors, recent alumni, and current or recently separated federal civil government employees. We want to help them retool, to update knowledge and skills, and prepare for new ways forward.

We have developed a new website with information on this program as well as new career resources. These resources include career counseling seminars and professional development opportunities for those interested in building new skills or quickly pivoting their career with Georgetown’s graduate programs.

Pursuing Advanced Degrees and Certifications

Whether you’re looking to advance in your current career or explore new opportunities, Georgetown graduate programs can help you build valuable skills for the future.

For current or recently separated federal civil government employeesgraduating seniors and Class of 2023 and 2024 undergraduate alumni, we are:

  • Offering a 10% scholarship on the base tuition for many of our master’s degree programs for the 2025–2026 academic year;
  • Offering waivers for the application fee for master’s programs;
  • Providing flexibility for interested applicants who cannot meet published application deadlines.

For those interested in exploring master’s degree options without committing to a degree program, we offer a visiting non-degree student program.

Additionally, Georgetown’s School of Continuing Studies is providing short-term professional certificates across several fields at a 30% discount as part of its new initiative Georgetown Pathways: Empowering Career Transitions to support displaced federal employees.
