Announcing the Appointment and Charge of the Task Force on Gender Equity

Dear Members of the Georgetown University Community:

I write today to share an update on the Task Force on Gender Equity. Last month, we launched this Task Force to study and develop recommendations on ways that our community can strengthen our capacities to support and advance gender equity among our faculty and senior leadership. You can read more about the charge of the Task Force here and the work that will take place over the course of the next year.

To lead this Task Force, I have appointed Professor Jane Aiken, J.D. (LLM’85), Vice Dean and Professor of Law at our Law Center.  Known for her work in clinical education, she is an expert in family and education law and brings deep and diverse expertise as an academic and administrative leader. Previously, she served on a gender task force at The University of South Carolina. Since taking on this role as Chair, Professor Aiken has engaged more than 100 members of our community, as well as the Faculty Senate, around the formation of the Task Force.

I am pleased to share with all of you the membership of our Task Force, comprised of faculty and senior administrators from across our three campuses and from a variety of disciplines, perspectives, and roles.

I am deeply grateful to these members of our University community for their willingness to engage in this effort and share their scholarship and expertise.  I look forward to the work of this Task Force over the next year and all that it will enable our University to achieve, together, in the time ahead.

You have my very best wishes.

Sincerely,

John J. DeGioia
