Announcing Geoff Chatas (C’85) as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

Dear Members of the Georgetown University Community:

It is with great pleasure that I write to share that, in consultation with our Board of Directors, I have appointed Geoffrey S. Chatas (C’85) as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Georgetown University.  He will begin in this position in February 2018.

In this role, Geoff will provide executive leadership for our University’s major operational functions, including Budget and Finance, Planning and Facilities Management, Human Resources, Information Services, Investment, and Internal Audit.

Geoff comes to us from The Ohio State University (OSU), where he has served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer since 2010.  During his time at OSU, Geoff also taught courses as an adjunct professor of finance.  He has extensive experience in the private sector and has served in leadership positions at a number of firms, including JP Morgan.

Geoff earned his Bachelor of Arts in history and economics here at Georgetown in 1985 and has obtained graduate degrees from Oxford and INSEAD (the European Institute of Business Administration).

I wish to express my deepest appreciation to Joe Ferrara and David Rubenstein, for their many efforts to oversee our COO operations in an interim capacity over these last few months, and for all they will do to ensure a smooth transition in the coming weeks.

Please join me in welcoming Geoff back to Georgetown and wishing him the very best as he begins in this new role.

Sincerely,

John J. DeGioia
