Georgetown University played a vital role in the expansion of the Big East Conference in the 2010s. Georgetown has been a member of the Conference since its founding in 1979. In 2013, President DeGioia announced two landmark changes: a new partnership with FOX Sports and the addition of 3 schools – Butler University, Creighton University, and Xavier University – to an enhanced expansion of the Conference.
