Distinguished Scholar-Teachers
Founded in 2013 by President DeGioia, the President’s Awards for Distinguished Scholar-Teachers celebrates the dual mission that is at the heart of Georgetown: dedication to ambitious research and excellence in student engagement.
These awards were inspired the University’s focus as a student-centered research university. Honored faculty members demonstrate an extraordinary level of commitment to their scholarship and to their students.
They embody the Georgetown spirit of “restless inquiry” in the pursuit of deepening their understanding of the world and supporting their students in their pursuit of understanding the contributions they can make to our global community.
Great scholarship informs great teaching. Great teaching informs great scholarship.
While the University has awards that honor each individually, this award specifically recognizes community members who demonstrate how excellence in scholarship and teaching emphasize and strengthen each other.
Recognizing the inaugural honorees
This honor has been awarded annually since 2013. Faculty members are nominated by their peers and reviewed by a faculty committee comprised of past awardees. A short list of nominees is presented to the President.
