Announcing Eleanor JB Daugherty as Vice President for Student Affairs
October 20, 2022
Dear Members of the Georgetown University Community:
I am pleased to announce that Eleanor JB Daugherty, Ed.D., has been appointed as Vice President for Student Affairs and will be joining the Georgetown community on January 10, 2023.
In this role, Dr. Daugherty will be responsible for leading our Division of Student Affairs, a unit that plays an invaluable role in supporting the most important task of our University: the formation of our students—the integration of their intellect, character, and spirit. The division includes offices responsible for student activities, residential living, resources and support, and student health and wellbeing.
For more than two decades, Dr. Daugherty has engaged in all aspects of student life from admissions to advising as well as alumni relations at multiple institutions. She shares a deep knowledge of the student experience and unwavering care for students’ wellbeing.
Dr. Daugherty currently serves as the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at the University of Connecticut (UConn) where she has spent the last eight years working with campus partners as well as legislative partners to improve student experience on various matters including mental health and wellbeing, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), and Title IX compliance. She also has experience teaching graduate level courses in UConn’s Higher Education and Student Affairs program, which is focused on developing reflective practitioners in student affairs.
Prior to her time at the University of Connecticut, Dr. Daugherty worked as the Assistant Vice President for Student Life and Associate Dean of the College for Student Life and Alumni Affairs at the University of Chicago. In this role, she developed and led a comprehensive leadership program that provided students with opportunities to develop and practice leadership skills in ways that might inform their approach to achieving their personal, academic, and professional goals.
I wish to offer my sincere appreciation to Jeanne Lord, JD, Ed.D. for her tremendous service as interim Vice President for Student Affairs while we conducted a national search.
I would also like to express my gratitude to Rosemary Kilkenny (L’87), our Vice President, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer and Ricardo Ortiz, Professor in the Department of English for co-leading the search committee, and to the members of the committee for their important service to the University.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Eleanor Daugherty to the Georgetown University community.
Sincerely,
John J. DeGioia
